President's Blog - 1st April 2021
Hello everyone, welcome back to our website. We seem to have been a very long time in lockdown, and now here we are this week with our first phase of restriction lifting, in the Prime Ministers road map out of the pandemic.
Hopefully we will find at each stage that the politicians and scientists have got the timing right, and we can progress back to complete “new” normality by the 21st June. With that in mind we as Lions have been planning our year, with a view to some of our fundraising and community events being able to go ahead this year. The last year has been difficult for us as a charitable organization, as it has for most, and we need to look towards filling up our coffers to be able to continue to support groups and organisations within our district. Having said that, we are very pleased that we have still been able to support many groups since my last blog.
We were delighted to be able to support our own local hospice, St. Catherines with a donation of £3000.00, Martin house Children's hospice, based in Wetherby but who support children from our area too with £1000.00, and also £1000.00 to support our own little white bus, which we all know is so important to our elderly community. On top of those we have recently donated £500.00 to Filey playing fields association, who coach a large number of our youngsters in football and cricket, to enable them to purchase a CCTV system to secure the building and £550.00 to our community fridge to help pay their annual transport bill to Fare Share, where a lot of their donated food comes from.
Hopefully as restrictions are lifted, we will be able to continue with our events, and support of the district. Our current plans include our popular ball race at the beginning of August, and we are working with the police team’s project Servator team, to get involved with a possible safety day which will include their springboard for youth project, an idea to get the youngsters involved with football, cricket, tennis , golf and running, and further details will be announced soon.
In the meantime, stick to the guidelines please and follow the rules and we will soon be able to be all together again.
